The Sixth Form team advanced through the heats to win the grand final of the 2008 Surrey Schools Problem Solving Challenge, Year Group 12-13. The Year 12-13 students on the winning team were: Lucas Jones, Amy Seed, Dan Stirrat, Robyn Ward, Amanda Austin and Catherine Orr. The teams were set the challenge to design and make a wind-powered crane that would raise a load from floor level to table-top as quickly as possible. The grand final took place on Thursday 13 March 2008 at Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey. The Year group 12-13 was sponsored by the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the prize of £250was presented to the team by Mrs Angela Fraser, DL, Chairman of Surrey County Council. This is the second year in a row that the sixth form team have made it through to the grand final, last year winning the Prize for Innovation.
